Lake County Adopt-a-Lake Program and Lake County Water Authority to offer free aquatic plants The Lake County Adopt-a-Lake Program, in conjunction with the Lake County Water Authority, is giving away free aquatic plants from 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 11 at the Hickory Point Recreational Facility, located at 27341 State Road 19, Tavares, on the shores of Lake Harris. The plant varieties available include canna, lizards tail, bulrush, pickerel weed, soft rush, arrowhead and iris. Residents will be allowed to take up to five plants each, while supplies last. It is important to note that these particular plants must be planted in or very near water. Aquatic plants benefit a water body by providing a habitat for wildlife and acting as a filter for nutrients. Aquatic plants can also help stabilize a shoreline and aid erosion issues. For more information about the plant give away or the Lake County Adopt-a-Lake Program, call Cathie Catasus at 352-253-1659 or email [email protected].
