Lake County Commission to honor FSU kicker Roberto Aguayo with proclamation and reception The Lake County Board of County Commissioners will honor Florida State Seminoles kicker Roberto Aguayo with a proclamation and reception during the board meeting at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6 in the Commission Chambers at the Lake County Administration Building located at 315 W. Main St., Tavares. Aguayo, a Mascotte native, was a student athlete at South Lake High School before graduating and committing to FSU as a consensus top three placekicker. Aguayo went on to receive the 2013 Lou Groza Award, which recognizes the top collegiate placekicker in the nation, at the 23rd College Football Awards Show in December. Last year, Aguayo had one of the most prolific seasons in college football history by converting 19 out of 20 field goal attempts and was a perfect 90 for 90 on points after touchdown. Aguayo also broke the national record for points by a placekicker, scoring 157 points and outscoring opponents in eight out of 14 games. Aguayo is regarded as one of the key players who led the Florida State Seminoles to the National Championship in 2013. “As a top–notch star athlete and a humble, hard-working young man who exemplifies great character, Roberto is well deserving of this honor,” said Chairman Jimmy Conner. “Roberto proves that perseverance and dedication can lead to great successes in life. We are proud to highlight him as a shining example of Lake County’s youth.”
