Lake Superior Sagenite Agate polished by John Marshall and photographed by Tom Shearer. Like many Lake Superior Agates this example is small ( about 35mm across) yet includes an enormous level of detail and color. The agate was polished on the original alluvial face in a curved manner. Tom uses focus stacking software to merge images produced at slightly varied focus points on the curved surface. The result is a three dimensional surface that appears to be completely in focus as if it were a single plane.
