Lake Waikeremoana Challenge 0n 16th Nov then the Kaweka Kaweka Mountain Running Here is all the information about the Series What? It’s not very often you get the chance to be part of history in the making. But now you can.The first New Zealand Mountain Running Series kicks of this year. It is a series like no other in the country. This first one is likely to be the easiest; and we use that term with tongue firmly in cheek. The 20km at the Lake Waikeremoan Challenge may only be 20km, but don’t underestimate the 1160m up the Panakiri Bluff. Where? We’re starting the first series showcasing the Hawke’s Bay. Why? Because we have to start somewhere and because we live here. It’s a great part of the world and two of the events have been running for 25 years or thereabouts. And despite what you might think, we are not far away from most places in New Zealand. Taupo is only 90 minutes away, the Hawke’s Bay is closer than you think. In future years we plan to bring other events into the series and make it truly national. Why? This country has so much to offer. We want to do all we can to encourage you to go to places to run that you might not ordinarily go to. We’ve got some great running events spread all over the country in some terrific locations. Some events are very well known, others not so. And we’re doing it because we can! When? The events in this first series kicks off with the Lake Waikeremoana Challenge 0n 16th November that takes you into the Ureweras and Lake Waikremoana for the shortest run of this year’s series. Then it’s off south to the Kaweka Ranges about 70 km inland from Napier/Hasting for the Kaweka Mountain Marathon on 1 February. Finish off withTriple Peaks Challenge around Havelock North on 15th March and you’ll know you’ve done some serious running this season. How? To be part of the New Zealand Mountain Running Series all you have to do is to complete in one of the distances on offer at each of the three events. You’ll still get all the goodies the other events have to offer, but we’ll top those of with a specially created medal to celebrate your success.In addition, complete the longest distance on offer at each event be in to win the inaugural New Zealand Mountain Running Series Championship. We’ll have some great trophies for the best male and female winners overall, and age trophies for the best male and female in your respective divisions. Who? We’re three event directors in Hawke’s Bay with a shared passion for the outdoors. We want you to see and share our enthusiasm and love for our great country through a showcase of some of New Zealand’s great runs. But not only great runs, challenging runs.
