Lakekamu Basin has now become a centre of activities - oil exploration . The drilling has now taken place at two sites: Bobcat n Wahoo. We have a problem here ; deciding who owns the land where the rigs are. Toaripis who live on the coast , the Popos who live inland closer to the drilling sites and the Lese villages to the East. Why you people arguing over the ownership? Why Popo people are claiming ownership? To Popo people, where does your roots connect. There was never a village called Popo..It was Toaripi people who used the land as gardening n fishing area ..some decided to settle there ..that wad how Popo village came to be today.. People of Lese n Toaripi must work together for the benefit of our people. After all you ate one people ..migrants from Toaripi. Remember, oil may bring a lot if money ..you will have so much that you would not know what to do with it. Also , it has bad side too. Should anything goes wrong with the oil n gas well, catastrophe would be so devastating and it will affect the whole Papuan coastline - from Milne Bay to Western n parts of Australia. Are you going to compensate these people whose livelihood depends on fish and other marine products . It will also affect us ..no longer will we eat from what we harvest but from other people because we lost our land as a result of our greed. Think twice..cooperate n workout something good for our people..Let somebody ..an honest person represent us ..n we share the benefits..
