Lamar Public Library to participate in WORLD BOOK NIGHT - APRIL 23, 2014! World Book Night U.S. is dedicated to spreading the love of reading, person to person. Librarians are essential to the success of World Book Night U.S. They help create community among the givers, and they are among the first to welcome future readers. On World Book Night, 25,000 book givers will each give away 20 copies of a specially-printed, not-for-resale World Book Night U.S. edition of a book they have read and loved, chosen from a list of 35 titles selected by a panel of librarians and booksellers. The volunteer book givers personally hand out their copies to complete strangers, people who may never have owned a book of their own. Libraries and bookstores support this event as organizational participants, forming a nationwide advocacy and distribution network. World Book Night U.S. library organizational participants make a commitment to: (1) Be a site for individual book giver volunteers to pick up their shipment of books and (2) Be an active advocate in their community for World Book Night U.S. and spreading the love of reading, person to person. Lamar Public Library is honored to be participating in this event. Please join us on April 23, 2014 as we spread the love of reading!! WE NEED BOOK GIVERS! BE A BOOK GIVER- Volunteer book givers are central to World Book Night U.S., putting wonderful books into the hands of light or non-readers in their communities. The book givers seek out light or non-readers, especially people who don’t regularly read and/or people who don’t normally have access to printed books, for reasons of means or geography. Book givers receive 20 free paperback copies of one World Book Night title, not too many to carry but enough to share with a good number of potential new readers. Giver applications must be completed by January, 5, 2014 For more information or if you would like to be a BOOK GIVER in this event, go to: us.worldbooknight.org/
