Lamech had a number of children by his two wives, and the Bible - TopicsExpress

Lamech had a number of children by his two wives, and the Bible indicates that they were the focal point of an antediluvian renaissance in arts and crafts, and an agricultural, technological and industrial revolution. This indicates that population levels had reached a point where it could sustain technological and industrial development. There are some who believe that by the time of the flood their technology could easily have matched or exceeded anything we now have. Fresh from their Creator’s hands, it would be a mistake to consider them “primitive.” The genealogy of Cain’s line gives us a rough estimate of when this technological and industrial revolution began in the antediluvian world. The sons of Lamech were the seventh from Adam. Assuming that there is a rough match between the line of Cain and the line of Seth then this “revolution” would have begun in the days of Enoch around the time Methuselah was born. Enoch can probably be thought of as a kind of antediluvian Elijah, even to the point of his being taken up to heaven without seeing death. He was a prophet of God. And of the breadth and depth of his preaching we get a glimpse in Jude where we find that he had sufficient understanding of the plan of salvation to be able to speak of Christ’s second coming. But Enoch also had a message of much more immediate concern to his listeners. And we find a hint of that message in the name of his son, Methuselah. Roughly translated his name means, “When he dies it will come.” For more see the blog.
