Lamido explains free girl-child education Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State yesterday said his government made girl-child education free because women are critical agents of development. Speaking during a visit by members of the Arewa Youth Forum at Government House in Dutse, the governor said women make up 50 percent of the population of Jigawa and no society can develop if half of its population is illiterate, adding that in order to ensure all round development, the state made education free from primary to university for all female children. He said Jigawa State government gave overseas scholarships to indigenes for studies in Medicine, Engineering, Information Technology and Agriculture
