Land Army Girls !. Bring out the old tractor, shine up the old plough, The `Land Army` girls are in charge of these now, The men who once farmed here have gone to the war, So the women of england must step to the fore. The nation is hungry, and all must be fed, And englands proud women milked cows in the shed, From cattle to carrots, a backbone of steel, A talent of heroines did their courage reveal. They stood and they did what their country did ask, In forest or farmland performing their task, To keep the wheel turning on arable land, Ploughing and milking and weeding by hand. Unheard was their valour, unseen was their deed, Tending the cattle, sowing the seed, Feeding a nation and quietly then, Taking the place of the brave fighting men. History marks the momentous way, That the women`s `Land Army` stepped into the fray, For by their sure devotion, and the harvests they reap, Would ensure that no jackboot would trouble their sleep. A nation gives thanks in the quietest way, For this army of women who saved england`s day, With a slow recognition, but nevertheless, It is time that we said that. You saved us, - God bless ! . You came from the factory, you came from the home, An army of ladies, all working as one, To work and to slave, for my country, and me, So that all who believed in true liberty, - are free !.
