Land of the Free? Eric Wasileski I used to love our national anthem “Oh say can you see?” Now I wonder about it. “By the dawns early light” It is a song which glorifies something terrible. “and the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air” And leads us to love a fiction “oh say does that star bangled banner yet wave?” but fictions, when examined, crumble. “O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?” Are we free? Are we brave? It feels to me, we are a nation of cowards. We aren’t brave or free And this is not a state I choose to be.
