Landmark Study Reveals Impacts of Neurological Conditions on Canadians National study of neurological conditions show costs highest for traumatic brain injury 7.3 billion for 2011 to $8.2 billion in 2031. Results: The economic cost of death declines for most conditions following the projected decrease in proportion of death during the working age. Cost is greatest for TBI (from $63 million in 2011 to $48 million in 2031) followed by epilepsy ($40 to $32 million). In contrast, the cost of disability rises with the projected increase among the working-aged. Cost is greatest for TBI ($7.3 billion in 2011 to $8.2 billion in 2031), followed by epilepsy ($2.65 to $2.8 billion). The cost of death and disability increases in range from between $0.26 to $7.4 billion in 2011 to $0. to $8.2 billion in 2031: highest for TBI and lowest for Parkinson’s Disease. Canadians with neurological conditions, caregivers and representatives from Neurological Health Charities Canada celebrate the completion of the National Population Health Study of Neurological Conditions, the first Canadian study of its kind. The study’s report, Mapping Connections: An Understanding of Neurological Conditions in Canada, highlights the impacts neurological conditions have on affected individuals, their families and the health care system. “NHCC applauds the Government of Canada for its investment and commitment to the collaborative partnership of the National Population Health Study of Neurological Conditions.
