Landmarks Illinois will present the Project of the Year award to the Illinois State Capitol West Wing, Springfield, at our 2014 Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Preservation Awards Reception and Ceremony on Saturday, November 1 at the InterContinental Chicago. The restoration of the West Wing of the Illinois State Capitol represents the second phase of a comprehensive renovation program for the state’s most significant governmental building. The plan for the West Wing included the restoration of the key historic public spaces throughout its four floors and basement to the Capitol’s period of significance (1868-1908). Simultaneous with the restoration was the complete upgrade of the building’s systems including energy efficient HVAC systems, life safety and accessibility upgrades and security improvements.
