Lane pattern changes for ITC, ISC in 2014 ARLINGTON, Texas - The 2014 XBowling Intercollegiate Team and Singles Championships will feature a key change designed to enhance the competition as the lane pattern used for the event will not be disclosed to players or coaches prior to play. This enhancement will be implemented in partnership with the bowling tournament service provider H2M Management. H2M Management will develop the competition pattern confidentially and provide lane maintenance for the 2014 XBowling Intercollegiate Team and Singles Championships as well as sectional qualifying events. Historically, lane patterns have been shared the night before the event or at the players meeting. In 2014, the first ball thrown in practice at the competition will be the first look at whats on the lane. No information, including length or volume, will be disclosed until after the event. The athletes and coaches will simply need to let their ball be their guide throughout the competition, International Bowling Campus Managing Director of Youth Development Chad Murphy said. Sharing the pattern in advance provides so much strategic information about length and volume that it gives a roadmap of where to play and ball selection. Collegiate championships should be won based on shot making and the ability to read ball reaction rather than looking at a graph. The athletes skill and coachs collaboration on strategy adjustments will play a more central role in determining outcomes. An additional change includes adjusting the team championships final from a best two-out-of-three format to best three-out-of-five. Also new for 2014, H2M Management will create separate patterns for mens and womens divisions for both the team and singles championships. We are looking forward to the H2M Management team creating patterns that are true tests of skill and believe a longer finals format will help the top team rise, Murphy said.
