Lankan Islanders Orange Round 3 Match Report: We arrived at Punchbowl Oval to a standard Punchie deck. Orange had heavily recruited over the off season and it was time for our off season pick ups to stand up an show their worth in the absence of some of our experienced heads due to work & uni commitments. After a small confusion of the who was the home captain, Tevia tossed the coin and lossed his second toss in as many matches and Belmore elected to bat. Janath Samira quickly worked into his usual best, having the batsmen playing and missing on multiple occasions before taking his first for the day. At the other end Teshy was called upon to take the new ball and did a tremendous job hitting perfect lengths, offering the batsmen nothing. He ended his first spell of 5 overs with 1/2. uncharacteristically the Orange team were embroiled in a bit of a verbal confrontation with new man Hindol not wasting any time to get right in the thick of it, backed up by Janath and Prads. Hindol backed up his words with outstanding figures of 3/8 off 5 to put the strangle on them before drinks. DK and Tevia came on immediately after the break and strung together a set of tight overs, DK finishing with 3/20 off 6 and Tevia 1/11 off 6. With Belmore 9 down, we were hoping to keep them to under 80 but a small partnership developed and our intensity levels dropped slightly, letting them off a little before they were eventually bundled out for 99. Teshy claiming the last wicket and finishing with figures of 2/9 off 6. Our top order made light work of the modest total, thanks largely to a strong opening partnership by Tharindu and Gunna. Tharindu was particularly vicious on anything wide of off stump, finding the gaps and running the singles hard as well as hitting powerfully over the leg side field. When Gunna was removed for 19, our other new recruit Oshanka set about reaching the total in quick style, playing some delightful stokes through cover as well as some classy late cuts, Mark Fonzy Fonseka-esque, to seal the deal.
