Largo: Victim of abuse, clinging to life ▶ hendrickboards/blog/top-10-animal-success-stories-of-2014/ Largo, a 2-year-old shih zhu mix, was found in front of a Bronx building near death. He was severely emaciated, matted, hypothermic and basically, unable to move at all. Second Chance Rescue NYC got a call and rushed him immediately to their emergency vet. Only weighing 7 lbs, Largo was covered in filthy, matted fur and his own feces and urine. He had to be completely shaved down, put on IV fluids and a heating pad. Blood work has come back showing he is positive for Lyme disease. He also has dark tar-like stool, which indicates he is bleeding inside somewhere. An ultrasound confirmed he has small pieces of metal in his stomach. I remember when he was first picked up & taken to his vet in Brooklyn. He was touch & go for a while. But he is now happier and healthier then ever! He has been adopted and now lives in Manhattan w his mom & dog brother.
