Las Vegas – Kyle Canyon Road, State Route 157, will be closed - TopicsExpress

Las Vegas – Kyle Canyon Road, State Route 157, will be closed from U.S. 95 to the turnoff to Rainbow Canyon Road on Tuesday, Sept. 2 from approximately 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. due to a wide load hauling a 13 ft. wide bulldozer. Motorists are advised to use Lee Canyon Road, State Route 156, as an alternate route and expect delays. The bulldozer will be used for the Flood Diversion Berm project, which is headed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Forest Service and sponsored by the State of Nevada through the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), Nevada Division of Emergency Management, Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Nevada Department of Forestry. The project entails the construction of a temporary berm and a diversion channel, which will redirect water and debris to channel behind homes located along the Rainbow Subdivision on Mt. Charleston. As a result of the Carpenter 1 fire, which occurred last summer on Mt. Charleston, homes have been damaged by floods during the monsoon season. In addition, flooding also endangers State Route 157, which serves residents and visitors to the recreational facilities. The approximately $800,000 project is expected to begin within the next two weeks and will be complete by early November. For more information about the project, please contact Mike Balen, U.S. Forest Service at: (702) 839-5572. For the latest up-to-the minute road conditions, please visit: nvroads.
