Last Chance to book City Arts Academy Creative Industry Courses – courses start February 3rd 6 Week Documentary Film Making Course Starting Monday 3rd February Time: Mondays @ 6.30 – 8.30pm Cost: £60.00 Story-telling through pictures and sound… film-making is an incredibly powerful art form, with the potential to touch viewers in a multitude of ways. Talented film-makers make it look easy. Ben Jones is one of those. During this series of workshops, Ben will guide students through all aspects of film production from scripting and development, to production and editing. Participants will have the option to develop their own material, as well as work as a collaborative team in producing a short film. Ben Jones has been producing and directing documentary films as well as working on a freelance basis for more than ten years. Many of the films have been commissioned and broadcast on BBC, Channel Four, RTE and the ITV network channels within the UK and Ireland. As an experienced researcher, editor, producer and cameraman; Ben has worked for many other companies as well as deliver training workshops in editing and camera skills. He has filmed in many locations across Europe as well as recently in Israel/Palestine and in the US. Stand up Comedy Starting: Wednesday 5th February Time: Wednesdays @ 6.30 – 8.30pm Location: Blick Studios, 52 Hill Street, Belfast, BT1 2LB Cost: £60.00 If you’ve ever been curious about how to get started in the art of stand-up comedy, then join our stand-up comedy course run by The Infinite Jest’s Graeme Watson, comedy promoter, producer and performer. From one-liners to story-telling, from satire to puns, this beginner’s workshop will focus on writing and performance skills to prepare you for your first gig at the end of the course, along with advice on how to gets gigs in Ireland and beyond. Week 1: Warming Up Week 2: What is Stand-Up? Understanding Humour Week 3: Writing Jokes Week 4: From the Page to the Stage Week 5: The First Gig (and Beyond) Week 6: The Comedy Industry With a lifelong passion for comedy, Graeme began dabbling in stand-up comedy at the age of 14 and performed his open mic gig to a large audience in Queen’s Student Union alongside Ross Noble at the age of 18. (It was good. He has proof). In 2008, Graeme was one of the founders of the Big Laughs Belfast comedy collective as a performer and promoter, helping to re-invigorate the live stand-up scene across Northern Ireland, and bringing a new generation of stand-ups to the fore. As well as managing the longest running open mic comedy night at the Pavilion Bar for 3 years, Graeme has produced numerous comedy and spoken word variety nights in the Black Box (including Big Laughs at the Black Box, Mixed Nuts and The Mix Up), and was the co-founder of the comedy night for the curious, Bright Club Belfast. He is a board member of the Belly Laughs Belfast Comedy Festival, and has programmed for the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival and East Belfast Arts Festival. This course begins on Wednesday 5th February, and continues every Wednesday for the following 6 weeks, concluding on the 12th March.
