Last Fall I got a text from Courtney Gano, an infielder from the University of Washington, introducing herself & asking if she could come workout & train over Winter break. Her teams catcher had gone down with an injury & although she hadnt caught since she was 8, she was going to be the PAC 12 teams go-to. The first day she walked into my shop she still had tags on her gear, by the second day she was throwing from her knees. Day after day she came in. The bruises on her knees didnt stop her from wanting to perfect her blocking & I was blown away at the tenacity of this athlete who was thrust into a position she had never played. We trained all Winter and there was no doubt in my mind she was ready to compete on the highest stage in softball. The first time I saw her catch live I had goosebumps. She wasnt just okay, she was great; an absolute stud. My heart filled with pride. In fact, she only played 24 games in all & still ranked 3rd in the PAC with thrown out runners. During those 24 games, unexplainable physical oddities started happening. After an array of doctors she was finally diagnosed and treated. Her diagnosis had nothing to do with beginning a new position- but her story and comeback has everything to do with the type of competitor & person she is. Courtney is one of the sweetest & most driven human beings & I am so thankful to call a friend. I cant wait to see all she accomplishes this year & throughout her life. https://fullcountsoftball/2015/01/06/video-amazing-courtney-gano-story-16/
