Last Friday I completed a 2 weeks workshop on documentary - TopicsExpress

Last Friday I completed a 2 weeks workshop on documentary filmmaking at ACJ for some 50 students. It was the last day of this semester, when they break for the holidays. They had organized an impromptu music concert on the foyer below. I too settled down to see their hidden talents. After a rather surprisingly soulful beginning song, 2 students sang Aaj janey ki zid na karo and I felt so moved. This song was haunting me last 2 days. Today decided to research on it. Aaj Jaane Ki Zid Na Karo [Please dont insist on leaving today] is a Ghazal song written by Fayyaz Hashmi. It was popularized by noted classical vocalists, Habib Wali Mohammad who also sung as a playback in a Pakistani film and later by Farida Khanum. It is sung in Raag Yaman Kalyan. Apparently this ghazal is hugely popular and is attempted by many noted singers. Something very moving about this raga and also the lyrics. I checked out many other singers but as far as this song goes, my favorite remains Farida Khanum. Rehman does manage to more or less stick to that. There are other famous songs on the same Raga Yaman Kalyan. From film Barsaat Zindagi bhar nahin, from Pyaasa Yeh Duniya agar mil bhi . Giving you all the links. https://youtube/watch?v=wqbbILfdw94.
