Last Friday the 20th of September was our Presentation night held in our clubrooms. While the turnout was rather disappointing, everyone there seemed to have a great night. Details of the club award winners are shown below. May I also mention that we had two winners at league level. Firstly Andrew Robertson won the Supers Reserves goal kicking award. Secondly Brian King won the league Best and Fairest in the Over 47s competition with a league record number of votes. In the History of Superules, no one has ever scored the amount of votes Kingy did to win a best and fairest. Jeff Powell was also runner-up in the leagues Supers best and fairest. Well done to all three guys. Supers Best and Fairest which we have now named the Mathews/McCrimmon award was won by James McIntyre. Runner up was shared by Craig Hayes and Richie Young. The coach’s award was shared between Julian McDermott and David Witchell. Leading goal kicker was Simon Kayrooz and the best finals player was a tie again between Craig Hayes and Richie Young. Supers Reserves We have now named this Best and Fairest the Dyring/Hinton award and this was won by Mick Rowley. Runner up was shared by Rod Bond and Geoff Toone. The coach’s award was won by Scott Roberts and the leading goal kicker was Andrew Robertson. Mick Rowley was our best finals player. Over 47s Best and fairest was won by Brian King with Tony McDonald coming in as runner up. Brian Dillon won the coach’s award and Pat Sassano was the leading goal kicker. Over 52s Mick Grounds and Graeme Proctor shared the Best and Fairest award. Elvis Govic won the coach’s award and David Whillas was the leading goal kicker. George Georgiou was awarded the Peter Marks award for outstanding service to the club over a number of years. Steve Gray was awarded the Bill Patterson Best Clubman award for his work both prior to and after our move to Banyule. Brian King, Mick Pitts, George Georgiou, Steve Gamble, Matt Hart, James McIntyre, Anthony Sievers and Ben Savage were all awarded medals for reaching milestone games this season. All coaches received tankards as a show of appreciation and all the premiership players and staff received league medals and team photos to commemorate the win. Well done to all our award winners. All were well deserved. Please keep Wednesday the 23rd of October free. We will be having our annual AGM in the clubrooms that evening at 7.30pm. If you want to have a say in how your club is run or even nominate for a position on the committee, you have to be at this meeting. Next season is already looming as one of the biggest in the clubs history as the Bears will be moving back up to Premier Division for the Supers which is great news. It also means that for every game. We will have at least three of our four teams at the one venue. A reminder notice as well as other club news as it happens will be forwarded to you regularly.
