Last Lagos Ebola Patient Cleared – Fashola Lagos state governor, Babatunde Fashola on Friday said the last Ebola patient in the state’s isolation center has tested negative to the virus. Fashola disclosed this at the Lagos central Mosque, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja after he led members of his cabinet to visit the First Consultant Hospital, Obalende, Iru-Victoria-Island local council development area. He added that the state will assist the First Consultant Hospital to ease the losses they recorded from the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease in the country. Fashola said, “yesterday (Thursday September 18th) was the last day for us to know if they had the infection or not. The last of the 19 suspected EVD patients has tested negative to the virus. “Lagos is free at the moment but we cannot jubilate yet because some West African countries are still battling with the virus.” Speaking on how the state would assist the First Consultant Hospital, Fashola said that the government would help in the replacement of equipment that were discarded in the process of decontaminationand would provide other forms of support to help the hospital get fully back on its feet. According to him, “ This would be the first thing we will be doing for the hospital for their efforts to ensure that the index case (Patrick Sawyer) does not infect several residents of the state with the virus. “We are already considering the amendment to that 2003 Public Health Law and when the executive bill does go to the parliament in the next couple of weeks, I have asked them to list it for consideration to see what we can adjust in the law to strengthen the capacity of health workers in the state.”
