Last Month I recorded this series but have only just had time to - TopicsExpress

Last Month I recorded this series but have only just had time to watch it over the last few evenings. On the Male side of both branches of my family all of my ancestors were Military Personal. (RAF & Army & Navy) My Great-Grandfather won a Medal for Bravery in WW1, we still have the Medal & Certificate. 20 years ago I went to the trenches of The Somme, Hill 51 and Thiepval to learn about the events of 1914-1918. The horror of the trenches is hard to comprehend it was then & it still is now. Long since grassed over and neatly tended by the War Graves Commission we can only imagine the horror of it all. I have been trying recently to understand the mentality of those who wear Red Poppies and defend the glorification of War & Sacrifice and also to find ways to help others currently serving or supporting the system to think about the bigger picture and contribution participation has. No one should have to die like this. Today we have replaced trenches for Drones. At the click of a button we can annihilate the enemy with the push of the button from a computer screen far away. We are more detached from the reality & consequences of our choices & actions than ever before. What has really changed in the last 100 years? How have we learned from our mistakes? My wish on the Works Christmas Tree this Year - World Peace. While we continue to use violence, force and power on others we cannot expect a different outcome.
