Last Saturday night, we had twenty of my daughters classmates come - TopicsExpress

Last Saturday night, we had twenty of my daughters classmates come to our home for my daughters 10th birthday. Each year on her birthday, she suggests optional donations or pet supplies for a local animal shelter, in lieu of gifts. When the girls were in pre-school, they were very excited about bringing pet supplies. After doing this for six years, most of the families are sending checks for the shelter or making donations on line. Each year, there are several moms who, in addition to donations, break the rules and send lovely gifts for my daughter. Often, some of the gift bags and wrapped presents dont have tags, but have cards inside or attached. Checks come inside of cards in envelopes. You can probably guess where this is going... This year, while moving gifts, cards, and pet supplies out of the way during the party, I made a complete mess of things. It was hectic, to say the least, having twenty girls for dinner, games, contests, a movie, and sleepover. The next afternoon when my daughter opened everything, I was trying to make a list for thank you notes. Several cards were detached from some lovely wrapped gifts. Some of the gift bags had multiple cards in them. Some brought checks or receipts for online donations and one or multiple gifts. The majority, I think, gave a check for the shelter in an envelope, thank goodness. The only thing we know for certain is those who gave checks or put receipts for online donations in the cards. In previous years, when we invited more children I had printed cards made that thanked the guests for coming to the party and bringing gifts to the animals. My daughter would write a short note on each card and mention the personal gift if there was one. There were a few mysteries we were able to solve by me sending a nice email to the mother, (i.e., was the jewelry box from your daughter?) This year, things are even more confused. We could do the general thank you for coming to the party and the gifts for the shelter animals. Im just concerned that some wont get thanked for their personal gifts. Or some will get thanked for a gift they didnt give. Id be so embarrassed to send an email to the mothers asking who gave what. Would love some advice!
