Last Sunday we started a new sermon series: HARVEST TIME! The specific sermon title for last week was Let it RAIN. See in Galatians 6:7 - 9 it talks about at the proper time we will see a HARVEST. Many of us have planted good crops in our lives. We have set off on the right journey for our lives and have been listening to HIS VOICE. But we have not SEEN the SUCCESS or HARVEST. But sometimes it just may be we need HEAVENLY RAIN. We do not need water from someone else. We need RAIN from Heaven - straight from GOD! We do not need to keep striving or carrying burdens. Instead, we need to be in HIS PRESENCE, not WORRY and leave the results up to HIM! I am reminded of the this story I read recently: The Story of Girl with Umbrella The community began to worry deeply about the prolonged drought which was affecting their wheat and corn crops in very obvious ways. The wheat kernels were not developing out as needed for even a minimum yield and the corn leaves were already drooping severely. The town depended heavily upon the farming potential of the area and had always been able to count on enough rain that irrigation was something they had never invested in extensively. The religious leaders of the town met and agreed to call for a combined day of prayer about rain. They asked their congregations to gather together in the one large meeting house the following day. As the anxious town people settled in their seats, the ministers took turns pleading the cause for rain on behalf of all present. It was a solemn setting indeed as these farmers and businessmen joined in with their own prayers and silent pleas. Imagine the joy when they suddenly heard a deep rumble of thunder, an appearance of dark clouds in the distance , and then the sound of rain on the roof. They were all overjoyed. But they were just as surprised to see that as they walked out through the rain to their cars only one person out of the entire group had brought an umbrella—a young girl whose faith had been so sure she had taken appropriate action! I leave you with these verses: James 5:16-18 (NIV) 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. 17 Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. 18 Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. Hebrews 11:6 (NIV) 6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
