Last Sunday, when I did my shift at Shultz’s Guest House , a dog rescue in Dedham, MA, I was so surprised that Maya was still there! Maya will greet people with the most hopeful eyes, tail wagging, trying her best to entice you to come in and be with her. And so I did. My hours at the rescue are always something I look forward to because i spend it with dogs. There’s no drama, no games with dogs, (other than fetch or chase) only truth. They either like you or they don’t. And they let you know it, no phoniness. Maya is a delightful dog with not a mean bone in her agile body. She’s really adjusted so well after her long journey from TN. That ‘s because of the daily care and attention the other volunteers give her. They dote on her , take her for hikes off campus, and just give her the love she begs for. Give her that much.. In return you’ll get a friend that is true. Something we all could use more of.
