Last Thursday found me in Muscle Shoals for the first time, and I in turn found me a small slice of heaven – at a craft brewery tap room hosting a cream-of-the-crop local concert. Star attraction was undoubtedly Hannah Aldridge, whose take on love, lust, death and Christ could best be described as Americana Noir. On a night of unexpectedly sub-zero temperatures, Aldridge warmed up the room and then some; here she is playing “Howling Bones,” from her excellent recent CD, Razor Wire. Aldridge, who may unfortunately be viewed as part of the furniture in her home town, regularly tours Europe, where she is treated with considerably more reverence: this past year found her at Glastonbury and she has already announced dates for another tour next March. She is, without doubt, the real deal. PS: The Singin’ River Porter was equally warm and welcome. Hannah-Aldridge
