Last Wednesday we got a visit from my old friend Lori, who not - TopicsExpress

Last Wednesday we got a visit from my old friend Lori, who not only brought a delicious roast with potatoes, green beans and carrots that went into my Granny’s 1920’s Dutch oven, she also gave Danielle a semi-professional facial. Dani smelled good all the rest of the day. Lori left a couple of games, too. You’ve seen Lori: that’s her asking “Where’s Frank?” at the beginning of that Sunshine State car commercial. On Tuesday last week we were treated to pizza for lunch with Denise, who gave us the proceeds from the Peeples Poker Run. I guess we’ll never know who all attended/participated because most of it was cash, but Thank You again, whoever you are. Same goes for the Go Fund Me site; lots of anonymous donors along with the mysterious “Smiths” –not their real name? Old friend Stick from way back inadvertently gave to the Heart of Rock N Roll site some time back and it took a while for the money to surface because it was a mystery deposit in the Simoneau’s (the family who set it up) bank account, 14 months after the event. Danielle’s old friend Deb from high school sent a donation, and my Aunt Betty and cousins Betsy and Chuck have shown us some love, too. Uncle Birdie & Aunt Connie sent Superman and Wonder Woman t-shirts. Thanks for all the meals and especially for friends who take time out of their day to sit with Danielle and keep her company while I’m out or just mowing the yard. Thank you to everyone who just spares Danielle a positive thought; it all helps. Thanks to Sean for pointing out that I can keep tabs on Danielle quite easily by watching her via the nanny-cam, on my iPhone. Duh! He dropped some dinner off and I was telling him how I dry dishes or brush my teeth facing the couch so I can see Danielle, who found it amusing to see my head pop around the kitchen doorframe every few seconds. Now I just turn on the app and can go put laundry in the wash or take the trash bin to the street and keep an eye on her at the same time. I can now take a shower: I just set the phone on the windowsill and keep the shower curtain slightly parted so I can see. Danielle still can’t get up fast enough to beat me, and I’m always just a few steps away, but the camera gives me a little more wiggle room. She is getting better at calling out to me anyway, and there’s a mic on the camera so I can hear her over the phone. We need techno-geeks like Sean to keep us on our toes. Thanks, Bro. Oh and thanks Chuck for recommending the aftershokz headphones. Danielle continues to get more strength in her right leg. Last week she was able to kick her foot out about a foot while seated on the edge of the bed, and she is able to control her leg better and better during exercises. She is also going for extra credit by having me help her walk to the table and sit in a real chair or to bed, rather than limit it just to therapy time. It seems to be giving her a glimmer that she will walk by herself again, but she still wants it right now. She has a million miles to go but that won’t phase her. She never wants me to leave, which is sweet, but I tell her someone has to make a little money around here. Today she is going to Boca Raton with me for a Mr Richard program at the downtown library. It’s too much to try and schedule someone with her all day, and besides I’d go nuts with anxiety being away from her that long. So I will take her to a nice lunch and we’ll take our time. Thank you Sharon & Grace for letting Molly out. This past Sunday Danielle’s mom was here when our good friend Patty left after visiting, and she asked Danielle if Patty was her best friend. She said, “No”. So her mom asked “Who then?” and she said, “Richard”. I can almost hear you saying, “Awww”.
