Last chance: Tell the EPA to improve the carbon pollution - TopicsExpress

Last chance: Tell the EPA to improve the carbon pollution rule! Dear Ilmarinen, This year, President Obama and the Environmental Protection Agency proposed action to restrict carbon pollution from existing power plants. Unfortunately, their rule doesn’t go far enough. The EPA is accepting comments on the rule until December 1st. So now is your last chance to tell EPA to make the rule stronger! Right now, the rule is insufficient to prevent the worst impacts of climate change. It requires too little, too late. It encourages the development of natural gas -- which would result in additional carbon and methane pollution. And it doesn’t adequately promote the truly clean, renewable sources of energy -- like wind and solar -- that we all know work. The comment period ends Monday, so now is the time to make your voice heard. Tell the EPA to improve the proposed carbon pollution rule by requiring steeper emission reductions. We are already feeling the impacts of climate disruption in the form of more intense storms, crippling droughts and rising sea levels. Coal-fired power plants continue to pollute the air. Fracking for natural gas continues to contaminate our water But we have better options. If the EPA forces utilities to switch to clean forms of energy like wind and solar, we’ll be able to breathe easier while preventing climate change. This rule is our chance to choose clean energy over Big Polluters. Demand that the EPA transition away from dirty fossil fuels to renewables like wind and solar. We can make a difference in combating climate change, but we must take action before the opportunity is gone. Together we can pressure the EPA to strengthen its proposed existing power plant rule to lead to real emission reductions. Sincerely, Kate DeAngelis, Climate and Energy Campaigner, Friends of the Earth
