"Last evening I attended the meeting of the Lancaster chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML). At the meeting I laid out my plan to end the cruel denial of effective medicine and the assault on personal liberty by reforming Pennsylvania’s marijuana laws. The elite political class continues to support Pennsylvania’s current marijuana laws. I have now met dozens of people who desperately need access to medical marijuana to control seizure disorders, deal with chronic pain, or relieve the side effects of treatments for cancer. I have also met people whose lives have been ruined by convictions for possession of small amounts of marijuana who cannot get jobs, have lost scholarships to college and have to deal with the stigma of a criminal record. These problems are especially acute for African-Americans who are five times more likely to be arrested on marijuana possession charges even though their use of marijuana is no higher than whites. No other candidate for governor supports reforming Pennsylvania’s marijuana laws. We can win this campaign for governor and shock the political elites. Then we can get to work to end the cruel denial of medicine and the assault on liberty by implementing my reform plan." - John Hanger, Democratic candidate for governor of Pennsylvania
