Last evening I was knocking on doors in Charlame II, trying to pull some last minute voters. The young men there have suffered a high amount of violence in ratio to their relatively few numbers and their small housing development. What some of them have done as offenders is a whole other question too. That said, theyre in desperate need of leadership. A young man answered the door and said Rufus J. Faulk is my dude! but he said he couldnt vote. I asked why. His curfew - i.e. a probation curfew or court-ordered conditions. Now, while I think curfews - if enforced - are pretty effective in reducing violence, it seems silly as a society to forbid pro-social behavior like voting. Then, his younger brother came to the door, who looked probably too young to vote, but who also repeated the same Rufus is my dude sentiments. So, they grabbed their mom and insisted she go down the street to vote for Rufus.
