Last long training ride before Pelotonia. 74 miles. Darby to Cedarville. Perfect day. 58 to 84 degrees. Wind chill. Heat index. Sun. Sprinkles. You get ALL of that on a long ride. I could list all the beautiful things I saw. Like a field of sunflowers. Yep. In Ohio. Or a spray of white forget-me-nots just abutting the bike path (thank you Lisa Landes). Or the great friends who planned a nice surprise for me at Cedarville (WHERE John Looker, Beth Schorr and David McPhail???!!!!). Ya know, Id rather share the lessons I learned today: 1. Great friends can take you to amazing places. 2. When great friends say they have a surprise for you in Podunk Nowhere, break away from the pack. 3. Take poison ivy pills BEFORE you go on long rides with great friends in Podunk Nowhere. 4. If a certain great friend with initials BS leads the way through an intersection and says CLEAR, listen closely to what her next words may be (like but hurry.) 5. Never trust Siri on a long ride. Never. Especially if you are with great friends who have a surprise for you in Podunk Nowhere. 6. When a trail says, no trespassing, it MIGHT be a better way to go, especially if its NOT a bike trail and you have to carry your bike with said great friends. Maddie Madone is still protesting. 7. Cedarville Falls is NOT 1.6 miles right in Main St and left on Xenia Rd. Well it IS If you want to HIKE AND CARRY YOUR BIKE 2 miles in the woods, with poison ivy, mosquitoes and rugged terrain. 8. Looker has more in him than he thinks he does! 74 miles with a 2 mile hike/climb and carry the bike. NO PROBLEM! It WAS a great ride, with GREAT friends on a perfect day and 2 bee stings. Thanks Looker, Schorr and McPhail. Cant wait to spend 2 days with you next weekend riding 180 miles! Pedal On Captain!
