Last month Lukas was lucky enough to have a wish granted by the Starlight Childrens Foundation Australia. Being the train freak that he is, of course that wish was to go on The Ghan, a train that crosses the heart of Australia over 2 nights and 3 days. We started off our adventure with 2 days in Darwin where we stayed on the waterfront, got to hand feed wild fish, saw the crocs and other creatures and witnessed one of the storms that Darwin is famous for. Then it was on to the star attraction, The Ghan for the next 2 nights, where Lukas got to visit the drivers cabin, toot the horn, hoon up and down the skinny passages, check out the couplings between carriages, play games in the lounge car, spend hours staring out the cabins window at the Australian countryside and sleep on the top bunk in our special Gold service sleeper cabin. The train stopped at Katherine where we did a boat cruise along the Katherine Gorge and Alice Springs where we visited The Desert Park. The Ghan crew were all fantastic and made us all, especially Lukas, feel very special. The train trip ended in Adelaide where we then flew home. Lukas had an absolutely wonderful time and it was an amazing experience that he, and all of us as a family , will treasure forever.
