Last night, 26 Democrats joined 224 Republicans in voting for a special counsel to investigate the targeting of conservative nonprofit groups by the Internal Revenue Service. Can we put to rest the false narrative that this is a partisan witch hunt? There were serious abuses at the IRS and those who used the weight of the federal government to squelch free speech need to be brought to justice. The real answer is to throw away the 70,000 pages of the tax code and start over with a much simpler tax.
