Last night Alison asked me what I was thinking about. I told her I was thinking about all of the people I met yesterday, and the conversations we had. I knew running for alderman would introduce me to lots of neighbors, but I didnt fully realize how their thoughts and concerns would stay with me. I cant shake their faces: the woman in her 90s with paralyzed vocal cords, tending to her garden, worried about a tree limb leaning on a power line; the man who moved to Bartlett for the safety when his previous neighborhood went bad; the woman concerned about the future of the performing arts center; the 80+ woman who has struggled with loneliness since the passing of her husband; the young man helping a neighbor with some construction work, pro bono; the young families with children wearing princess costumes; the married couples just enjoying a nice day and some bbq; the older couple who just moved in; the recent retiree disappointed by court costs over a speeding ticket. Everyone has a story.
