Last night, I downloaded Raising Steam, Terry Pratchetts newest Discworld novel. From a steampunk perspective, Pratchett offers a fairly scientific approach to his steam engine and he did an excellent job focusing on the vast infrastructure needed to make a working steam train operate successfully. Overall, the book was pretty disjointed and with a number of different perspectives. Ive always disliked Pratchetts normal method of starting a novel - giving several short scenes of different events that eventually tie together. I found myself skipping a lot of this book and focusing on the areas that caught my attention (the steam train, characters such as Vimes and Moist). Ive not finished it yet, and I doubt I will read every word.
