Last night I got a call from the barn owner that my horse was - TopicsExpress

Last night I got a call from the barn owner that my horse was drooling and had flem\saliva discharge from her nose and mouth. She was not eating or drinking, just standing there. Calling the vet immediately, I then took this video waiting. All the stuff on the ground was from her. Come to find out my horse, who usually is a slow eater, had came in her stall after a day of play, took a couple bites of food that got loged in her throat, and was chocking. Instead of it usually reaching their stomach (colic) it was in her esophagus... Anyway shes okay now! Soaked food and no hay for a couple days, but she is surviving. Be aware of your horse! Dont just feed and walk away! Weather is changing and the are feeling good! Never heard of this happening and was wondering if anyone else had this problem? What did you do to prevent it? Did it happen again? Thanks!
