Last night I got home late and someone had posted a question about lightning triggers and if anyone was using them and how they worked. I use the Lightning Trigger LT IV from Stepping Stone Products in Colorado. This photo was captured using this trigger on a NIkon D800, shot at ISO 100-1/4th of a second at aperture f/13. I use a Sigma 70-200mm lens and it was set at 70mm with this strike being about 1/4 mile in front of me. This was one frame captured with the trigger. I have really good luck with it, I am not sure the D800 is the best choice because of shutter lag, but you learn to compensate for it. This photo was my last shot of the day, near dusk. When I captured this I was sitting in the truck with the camera outside, because I had lightning on three sides of me and above me. I decided to call it quits even though it was a target rich environment. Photo was cropped and the shadows adjusted slightly to enhance the wall cloud in front.
