Last night I had the great honor to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Peace Corps in Uganda. Since 1964, over 1,400 American Peace Corps Volunteers have served in Uganda, working in secondary, primary, and vocational education, fisheries and agricultural development, community health, small business development, and environmental protection. They worked alongside President Museveni when he was a teacher. They were instructors for Ugandans, who today are celebrated ministers, Supreme Court justices and leaders in all walks of society, including General Kayihura. Happy Fiftieth Anniversary, Peace Corps Uganda, and thank you to our wonderful Volunteers and to our Ugandan counterparts for all you do to make a difference in the lives of Ugandas citizens.
