Last night I had the pleasure of going to the singing of Tony - TopicsExpress

Last night I had the pleasure of going to the singing of Tony Puryears, Erika Alexanders and Robert Alexanders amazing new series CONCRETE PARK: R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Even without reading the first series that was collected in Dark Horse Comics Presents I was still able to grasp the situation and immediately get sucked into the world. What theyve done here is nothing short of spectacular. The writing and the art are strong and FRESH! It doesnt feel derivative of anything currently on the marketplace and the characters are unique without being wacky or needlessly esoteric (a problem that plagues about 75% of new sci-fi comic book series). The story of a prisoner dropped on a distant world that orbits two suns that is actually a massive penal colony is powerful without being preachy. The world simply is what it is and you adapt or die. Theres no bargaining with the situation, theres no way out, theres no hope other than figuring out which gang will keep you alive the longest. The best possible compliment I can give is that I have no idea where the story is going next. Concrete Park is not predictable or for the simple-minded. Theres a lot here to digest and I found myself turning back to page 1 simply because I wanted to absorb more of the mis-en-scene. This is excellent stuff and well worth the cover price. Theyve got me looking forward to issue #2! Keep up the great work!
