Last night I hosted prominent members of the Muslim community at a Ramadan Iftar dinner to break the fast. The traditional feast was attended by approximately fifty people, including notable sheiks, philanthropists, sportspeople and councillors. I was honoured to share in an occasion so significant to members of my local community. Faith is one of the most fundamental pillars of civil society. In my electorate, it takes many forms, each of which make a special contribution to community life. That is why I am so committed to building positive relationships with my electorate’s local Islamic community and showing respect for their traditions.
