Last night I met with some departmental heads form DECD: The meeting was reasonably positive in that a) DECD are encouraging whole school training via the online dyslexia course ( which is a 20 hour online course) which is apparently packed with information and examples..... b) DECD havent said they wont support dyslexia aware schools but will leave it up to individual Principals as to whether or not their will actively participate in the dyslexia Aware quality mark if it suits the communities needs c) DECD will wait for evidence of effectiveness from the 3 public schools in the Barossa and Gawler Region currently working through the dyslexia aware quality mark and also from their own action research projects.... So, it seems Dyslexic Kids and their parents are will only get noticed if we make more noise... It was noted that there are no parents from the DECD system on the DAGBAGS committee ...
