Last night, I was sat with a four-top, two couples of older people, say late 50s mid 60s, that were on a double date. On couple was a giant fella with a ten gallon cowboy hat (a real one), two, count em... TWO bolos and one gold pinky ring. His wife was rhinestone studded and wearing an ugly x-mas sweater, on purpose, and a half drunken smirk. The other couple looked like they just came from a UT football game and were both coiffed perfectly. I thought, damn, I dunno if I can win this one over (as Im anything but country and not a football fan).... Thank God the football people were, underneath their burnt orange exterior, porter people (WIN) and the other couple thought I looked like Tina Fey (2X WIN)... Four minutes later, after introductions and first round order taking, as I was walking away from the table to get their drinks I heard one of the men say to the other man Dang, I like Jenny! Shes really good... We should come back before we leave. As I looked back at them, all four were smiling at me. I flashed them one myself. Service continued and then ended. They departed happy with their experience, but I couldnt help but carry this moment with me. These are the moments you live for in the service industry. Its rare you catch a table expressing genuine adoration for you/your skills. Its even more rare that a four-top of older, well-established individuals end up liking my crazy, greying, tattooed self:) It meant a lot to me.
