Last night I was talking to a guy in my store and a mouse ran across the warehouse floor. He asked me if we kill them (trap/poison), etc.. I said no. He said thats awesome and that he would never do that either, because he is not a Speciesist.. You can imagine my delight in hearing those words.. I told him how happy I was to hear him use that word, because most people have never heard it, or even know what it means. So of course we started talking about FOOD. He hasnt eaten meat in over 30 yrs and so I asked him about dairy. Oh I only use organic dairy, he said. You can imagine my shock.... I told him that organic means that the animals do not receive medicine when they are sick and therefore they suffer even more than the others. He then said but its approved by the SPCA.. I then explained that they still steal the babies away from the mothers and kill the boys, severely traumatizing both of them. This is legal, but not morally acceptable. Its very sad how the media manages to brainwash people with fancy words like organic and free range.. Hopefully his lack of speciesism will now be real ;) If you are unaware of the term speciesist or speciesism.. here is the definition: 1: prejudice or discrimination based on species, especially discrimination against animals 2: the assumption of human superiority ...(speciesism is no different than racism)
