Last night I watched OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN, a muscular and brutally efficient action suspense thriller directed by Antoine Fuqua. Gerard Butler stars as Mike Banning, a Secret Service agent for President Asher (Aaron Eckhart) who leaves the Service after failing to save the Presidents wife from a terrible car accident. When the White House goes under siege and the President and his staff are taken hostage by North Korean terrorists, Banning gets back into the game to save the American way and possibly reclaim his lost honor. An all star cast including Morgan Freeman, Melissa Leo, Angela Bassett and Rick Yune all deliver credence and gravity to a situation that could theoretically take place, and Mr. Fuqua delivers a tough and no-nonsense action style that proves he is one of the best modern Hollywood action directors working today. I certainly would have seen it in theatres, but Bluray is acceptable certainly. The work done to transform Shrevesport LA into Washington D.C. is commendable as well, the VFX folks really worked their asses off here. Very good, recommended.
