Last night I watched The Wolf of Wall Street. In general, I have always been a fan of Scorsese. Taxi Driver and Raging Bull are among my favorite movies of all time. I also think DiCaprio is a better actor than people sometimes give him credit for. But I can’t express how much I hated this movie. I never stop watching movies before they’re over. But I could not get through this one, even though I was less than a half hour from the end when I finally gave up. This was a movie made about rich guys who have lost touch with humanity, but it felt like it was made by rich guys who have lost touch with humanity, so the humor (?) is not funny, the glorification of their wealth at all costs seems celebrated rather than something we should question, and the complete absence of characters who suffered at the hands of these people leaves out the most important part of the whole story. This movie celebrates the income inequality that I think is such a huge threat to our economy. So yeah, I hated it. Did I mention that I hated it?
