Last night I watched a documentary about Jeff Dunhams life and career. He was adopted young and his adopted parents encouraged his ventriloquism. Had he not been adopted who knows what he would have been and how he would have turned out. It made me think about the kids at our Club and how our influence will change their lives. Will they remember us as they get older and the lessons we have taught them? Will they be better because of it? Who knows for sure, but it is worth the investment in our future generations. Some come into our life for just a little bit while others are destined to be in our lives forever. I have two daughters, one had no choice as she was born to us while the other was chosen. I call her my daughter but in reality she is not related by blood and not adopted, but still my daughter. This young lady came into my life as a part of my career at the Boys & Girls Club. She came into my office almost 2 years ago looking for a job. Since then we have come to share a lot, including our passion for changing lives. Yesterday she turned 21 with her family (myself, my wife and her sister). I am so proud of both my girls as they change and become better women. This post was the first and last time I will ever use quotes when I call her daughter. She is and will always be one of our family. How will our influence change her, I do not know. I do know that it has and that she has changed our lives as well in this short time. I am waiting to see the future. Reach out and touch someones life, youll be glad you did and it will change yours as well. Happy Birthday again Jacqueline.
