Last night I watched a family trying to go to sleep on a sidewalk. They were all huddled on a flattened cardboard box, while cars and busses roared by just a few feet from where they lay. Their little girl was struggling to breath. Asthma maybe. She lay in her fathers arms as he tried to settle her. It broke my heart watching them. My walk home was maybe half a mile, and all they way there were more and more people settling in on sidewalks for the night. This city is desperately poor.
