Last night Zeus and I went to the Wilson County Fair. Every year - TopicsExpress

Last night Zeus and I went to the Wilson County Fair. Every year I enjoy entering one of my dogs in the AKC dog show. In order to show in one of the specific breed groups, the dogs have to appear purebred. AKC registeration is optional. This year it was Zeus turn to go. Zeus and I arrived at the fair about six, parked in a wet, muddy field, and gingerly walked to the ticket booth. I kept an eye on Zeus making sure he stayed clean. Soon as we actually got inside the fair, I ran into my friend and her dog Kitty. Zeus and Kitty immediately tried playing. . . .in a mudhole. Didnt happen. We walked to the dog event tent, registered, and found a reasonably clean, dry place to sit. Just about everywhere we walked the ground was water-logged and muddy. Zeus and I went visiting in Fiddlers Grove. My friend, Wayne, Zeus, and myself made a quick trip to an excellent roasted corn vendor. There I was barely holding onto a really hot piece of corn, hoping I wouldnt get it on my white shirt while holding Zeus leash. All was good until I felt tension on the leash. I immediately glanced down to see Zeus with a huge slice of pizza hanging out of his mouth. He ignored me telling him to drop it so I popped his fur saver which caused him to bite through the pizza, drop half of it, and swallow the other half. Thats Zeus, not one to miss an opportunity. We made to the tent without any further incident, thankfully!!! The Terrier group was one of the last groups to go. While waiting, Zeus managed to stretch out in the wet, muddy grass. He caught me not paying attention and nearly rolled. When the Terrier Group was called, Zeus and I carefully walked to the ring entrance. By now Zeus white paws were somewhat muddy. Going into the ring, he balked because he didnt want to walk through a wet section of grass. I discreetly popped his collar and told him to, Come on!!!! Thankfully, he complied. Zeus showed off while in the ring. After receiving the blue ribbon, we were instructed to return for the Best In Show. By the time we made it to that event, Zeus has sat down in mud. I bummed a paper towel hoping to get some of it off. Once in the ring, the seven group winners waited patiently and impatiently for the puppy Best In Show to conclude. Zeus turned every way but right. At one time all the dogs were facing right except Zeus who faced left. He tried sniffing the backside of the Corgi in front of us. I had treats to help Zeus look attentive. Oh no. . . .that backfired. Zeus, instead of standing attentively, sat and repeatedly tried giving me high five. Then he scooted a few feet across the grass. I walked gently into him making him stand up. To my relief, none of the judges were looking at us. By the time they got to us, Zeus was behaving again. I thought when they looked at Zeus twice, wed won. However, it wasnt to be. The Best In Show was awarded to a five year old boy showing his mixed breed dog!!!!! The look of happiness on his face was awesomel!!!!
