Last night at about 10:00 PM, a team from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office MAGNET unit was traveling northbound Hwy 101 near the Healdsburg Avenue exit when the Officer driving the unmarked patrol car swerved to avoid a large object in the roadway. The car traveled to the shoulder of the roadway and spun out of control. It struck several trees on the driver and passenger sides. The Officer driving was trapped in the driver seat of the car. The Deputy passenger was temporarily stuck in the passenger seat until the passenger door was pried open from the outside. The Officer had a severe laceration to his head and the Deputy suffered an injury to his leg as a result of the accident. Both the Deputy and the Officer were transported by ambulance to the hospital where they were treated and released. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office is grateful for the rapid response by our public safety partners coming to the aid of our MAGNET unit. Although the collision was significant, thankfully the two team members survived without major injuries. We appreciate the kind expressions of support for their complete recovery. The accident is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol. Prepared by Sergeant Cecile Focha Media Relations / PIO
