Last night i couldnt sleep, all i did was stare @ the stars - TopicsExpress

Last night i couldnt sleep, all i did was stare @ the stars outside my balcony. Usually i look for d movement of shootin stars in awe & make a random wish. This time d fascination of planetry bodies was far from my mind. I had d misfortune of choosin to watch Chimamanda Adichies HALF OF A YELLOW SUN late in the night. I had read the book some few years ago when it was still making the rave. I thought it was overatted, she rode on her luck of standing on the shoulder of a Giant Chinua Achebe. After yesternights flick i take that back. She deserves so much credit for such a fine piece of fictional art fused wit historical fact about the Nigerian Civil war. This movie hurt me deeply into my soul. 1 part that wil stay wit me forever was after the coup when the Soldiers stormed the Airport they picked out all the Igbos and shot them point blank. At a time when the grown up soldiers had all died, children were forcefully recruited to become soldiers & sent to the war front. Rats & Lizard became a delicacy cuz there was no food. I was so young when i read my 1st account of the war. A book witout a cover, i tink it was written by Flora Nwapa. Even then to a certain extent i understood d gravity of that war. With such a delicate history. Violence fuelled by Tribalism, descrimination & Greed. U would think Nigeria would have learned something from that war. I look around & things havent changed. Everywhere u turned all u see is people pointin fingers and accusing 1 tribe or Religion for the problem of Nigerian. when will we stop making excuses and share collective blame for the failures of this Nation? From accepting our mistakes we can build a great Nation. If i was alive durin that war id Fight for Biafra cuz Ojukwu was Right posterity has proved him right. Till death Chinua Achebe has my Respect even in d grave for dissociatin himself from this soakaway called a country. I wish the Seccession had worked. If sumday i meet Chimamanda Adichie, there is only 1 question i would wanna ask her: What happened to Kienene? (I choose to live wit the delusion that she survived, all evidence to the contrary). I used to say there are somethings that are unforgivable but Kienene showed that forgiveness is really an attribute of the strong cuz the weak cant forgive. Nice revenge by Olanna payin Odienigbo back for knockin up Amala, d choice of who she did it wit was my only glitch. They got even & got beta.. Ow in Gods name does that happen? What a book, what a movie. *Round of applause* The 1st (Nigerian?) movie i am watchin since FIGURINE. Looking forward to seeing OCTOBER 1ST. *Playing Keep on walking By Passenger*
